MAAT@GTC, SEA Session - 7 Sept 2022

MAAT is an integral field unit (IFU) based on image-slicer technology that will add a novel capacity to OSIRIS with a seeing-limited field of view of 12" x 8.5".  MAAT will offer a number of improvements over standard longslit observing even for point sources, including enhanced resolution (1.6x greater c.f. OSIRIS with the 0.6" wide longslit), zero slit losses (vastly improving signal to noise for all but the very best seeing conditions), and reduced acquisition overheads. The instrument's preliminary design review phase was completed in early this year and first light is expected in late 2024.

As MAAT will be made available to the entire GTC community as a visitor instrument, we would like to extend an open invitation to an informative session during the XV Scientific Meeting of the SEA

The session is open to everyone with no registration required. It will consist of a brief introduction to the instrument and its scientific motivations, followed by ample time for discussions.

Date: 7 Sept 2022 from 13:30 to 15:00
Venue: Campus Guajara ULL - Aula (TBC)
